Multi-platinum recording artist Ella Mai wants to get you boo’d up at the Capitol Theatre Oct. 21.
The soulful songstress’ 2018 hit “Boo’d Up” has propelled her to heights seldom reached by newcomers to the music scene. Ella Mai will perform the Sweetest Day weekend show at 7 p.m. Sunday as part of an effort to bring higher-profile entertainment to the Flint market, says the event’s curator Brandon Corder.
“I believe we need to have attractions that bring outsiders to Flint,” says Corder, “not just people who are attractive to those in Flint.”
While Corder, whose live music series Beats X Beers is showcased in cities throughout the country, celebrates local talent, he says Flint has the audience to support major acts.
His goal is to use his combined experiences as a song producer, event promoter and music influencer to “bring innovative things that will stimulate the economy” into the city.
Since breaking into the Billboard charts Ella Mai has been nominated for an American Music Award, collaborated with Nicki Minaj, and showcased her vocal talents at the 2018 BET Awards. The British singer released her EP last year.
Corder looks forward to introducing the gifted R&B singer to his hometown.
“I just feel like Flint deserves what’s now and what’s current,” he says.
