Nature can be inviting and exciting in so many ways. From honeybee hives to tai chi in the park there are many events and activities that offer a natural escape from boredom just outside your door.

Let the kids run, climb and explore the FCM’s Discovery Zone and its many educational exhibits. The Discovery Zone currently features “A day at the beach.” Check out “Sproutside,” a natural exhibit area where your kids can experience the great outdoors along with educational programs, physical activities, or even a picnic lunch.

Visitors will love walking through the Robert Horn exhibit, featuring pieces from the New York psychiatrist’s personal collection of African art. See west and central African works, from stunning sculptures to magnificent masks representing more than 60 different cultures. Grab the kids and take a trek through the Saginaw Zoo, which boasts more than 150 animals and an amazing Wetland Experience Center, which has a natural well and ecosystem that supports native plants and fish. The exhibit includes an underwater viewing area and crawl-through beaver dam. The zoo also is home to a special Horticultural Center where kids are encouraged to help plant, water and care for a variety of plants used to feed some of the zoo’s animals.

Come out and enjoy the Sloan Museum Courtland Center Mall’s “Robot Zoo,” which gives an inside look at the complex inner workings of mechanical robots and insight into how real animals function, too. Visitors will love the robotic animals, hands-on activities, and demonstrations of how animals like chameleons change colors, how squid propel themselves, and how flies crawl across ceilings. The Sloan Museum is located inside Courtland Center, accessible through the Court Street mall entrance, right next to El Cozumel Mexican Grill.
Ages: Museum is open to all ages. The Rainforest Adventure Maze is recommended for guests ages 4 to adult.
