About new 200 jobs are expected to be filled in Genesee County with the arrival of Lansing-based Peckam, Inc., according to its CEO Mitchell Tomlinson.
The nonprofit vocational rehabilitation organization and human services agency is expected to occupy 38,000 square feet of space at the former Furniture Row, 3080 South Linden Road, according to company officials. Positions in vocational training and commercial sewing jobs will be filled by disabled citizens within 12 to 18 months, following the site’s renovation.
“Peckham is an innovative company that has provided great employment opportunities for people with disabilities,” Tim Herman, CEO of the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce, tells mlive.com. “Its investment also will return a large, vacant building on Linden Road to productive use. And, as an apparel manufacturer, the company’s expansion here shows that our diversification efforts are paying off. This is a win for Flint and Genesee on multiple fronts. We’re pleased to welcome Peckham to our community.”
