A new effort to support outdoor activities along the Flint River this fall promotes paddle power.
The Flint River Watershed Coalition and Corridor Alliance chapter have launched Kayak Flint, a kayak rental service that begins Sept. 14 and operates through Oct. 7. Renters can get equipment at 119 North Grand Traverse St. behind Tenacity Brewing and paddle the approximately two-hour river route from there through parkland areas including Chevy Commons and Mott Park Recreation Area, plus sections of Flint Township.
“We’re very excited to start Kayak Flint in a way that provides expanded access to the Flint River on such a unique stretch,” says Rebecca Fedewa, executive director of the Coalition. “We also see Kayak Flint as a great new way to build the local ecotourism economy. We regularly spot bald eagles, great blue herons, killdeer, and other wildlife through this stretch, and are excited to share this experience with residents and visitors.”
Kayak Flint’s sponsors include Dr. Bobby Mukkamala, 119 GT LLC, and C3 Ventures.
Kayaks can be rented for $20 and $35. Hours are from noon to 4:30 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. For more information e-mail call (810) 241-6966, firstname.lastname@example.org or visit http://www.facebook.com/kayakflint..
