Flint deserves something greater, organizers of an upcoming community event and musical performance say.

At 6 p.m. Friday Nov. 16 “Greater is Coming,” a concert by award-winning gospel singer Jekalyn Carr, will be held at Northbank Center, 432 North Saginaw St. in Flint.

Gospel recording artist Jekalyn Carr will perform Nov. 16 at Northbank Center to help highlight Flint’s Illuminating Community Change Project.

The free performance, held as part of the Illuminating Community Change Project, borrows its title from Carr’s 2013 recording and will help highlight a series of discussions to address public safety, violence and related neighborhood challenges. The concert and community conversations are part of efforts resulting from a $1 million federal crime and safety grant awarded to Hamilton Community Health Network last year. Hamilton is partnering with WOW Outreach, Church Without Walls and the North Flint Neighborhood Action Council to coordinate the performance, which organizers say was also conceived to encourage youth and families impacted by Flint’s water emergency.

Community resources and information for residents will be made available at the performance. Free parking will be offered at the Northbank Center Parking Garage.
