Flint educational advocacy organization names new executive director

Ashnee Young will take the helm of New Evolution Educational Center (NEEC), a community agency devoted to academic improvement and support for North Flint.

Young, who served eight years as NEEC’s board president, was named successor to founding executive director Joyce Piert.

“My time serving our youth as NEEC’s board president has been rewarding, but I am ready to work more closely with staff and the board to provide an engaging experience that reinforces and validates the children’s identity as leaders,” Young says. “As executive director, I will ensure that NEEC continues to realize its goal of providing a supportive educational environment for young people, while strengthening their sense of identity and pride.”

Young’s experience promoting education includes working in program development and leadership for the Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools. As NEEC’s executive director, her roles will include fundraising, communications, strategic partnerships, and support for scholars and team members.

“We are delighted that Ashnee will serve as our new executive director,” says Nic Custer, NEEC board president. “Her experience in youth development, professional development, and her strong connection to the community are assets that will strengthen NEEC’s programs and impact. We’re looking forward to Ashnee’s leadership and vision as we continue to prepare local youth to excel.”
