Beverly Biggs-Leavy’s dream of reopening her popular Flint restaurant came true in an unexpected way Oct. 5. Hamady Complete Food Center welcomed customers to Beverly’s, a carryout soul food eatery that will eventually become a unique, dine-in restaurant at the site of the grocery store.
Biggs-Leavy, who was forced to close the doors of Beverly’s Cakes & Catering after her profits suffered during Flint’s water crisis, had operated one of the city’s most popular lunch and dinner outlets. She’d recently bought a building to renovate when Hamady Complete Food Center invited her to partner with the supermarket.
Formerly a Kroger, Hamady began operating this summer in the north end. Since the opening of Beverly’s, , CEO of the supermarket, invites the community to support the two businesses by visiting Hamady to shop, dine, or both.
