The sound of jazz is providing one more reason for visitors to explore the often-overlooked cultural jewels of Flint. The 36th Annual Flint Jazz Festival kicks off Friday, Aug. 11 and jams every evening through Sunday, Aug. 13 in the “Meadow,” on the grounds of the Flint Cultural Center at Chavez Avenue and Longway Boulevard.
While it’s no secret to city residents who are jazz aficionados, the event, sponsored by the Greater Flint Arts Council, adds to the momentum of a fledgling artistic renaissance in the city. Headlining this year’s festival are Alexandria, Va.’s Johnathan Celestin, Chicago’s Sidewalk Chalk, and Atlanta’s 4 Korners.
Along with music, the weekend will feature crafts, food, drinks and more. For a full schedule, please visit the facebook page
